Runners explores perspectives on running, as well as aural auto-biography through the composer’s commentary on his own experience with running, the use of his archive of sound recordings and references to his past and present music. This threads through the wider discussion of 12 other runners, reflecting on their pathways to running: beginnings, memorable experiences, benefits and listening perspectives; as well as a wide range of running sounds (breath, feet, shoes, laces, movement) and environments.

Spoken word by the composer and participants in the SoundRunner pilot study (2019-20). All other sounds and music by the composer, including sounds from his archive of recordings (2003-21) and excerpts from Tongue Drum (2021), Run (2019), The sky settles in the silence in between (1999), Purge (1994) and Pagoda (1993).
