Like Carl Andre’s minimalist sculpture (Equivalent VIII), the uniform, hard surfaces of building bricks are the focus of this piece. They provide an extraordinary sonic terrain whose detailed exploration spans dense, multilayered textures and delicate scraping.

Equivalence was realized in 2007 in the studios of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD) and premiered on March 3, 2007 during the Invisible Art concert series produced by BEAST at the CBSO Centre in Birmingham (UK).
