Born in Ottawa in 1986, Franco-Ontarian composer Thierry Tidrow began his musical training in the St-Matthew’s Men and Boys choir and at De La Salle High School in vocal performance. In 2009, he obtained his Bachelor of Music degrees in honours composition and theory at McGill University, where his composition teachers have included Brian Cherney and Christoph Neidhöfer. In 2011, he received his Masters degree from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where he studied under Richard Ayres.
Thierry has collaborated with many ensembles, including the Asko-Schönberg Ensemble, the Ereprijs Orkest, Insomnio, the New York Miniature Ensemble and the Chiara String Quartet, who toured his String Quartet in the United States. His piece It had something to do with the telling of time… (2010) was nominated for both the Gaudeamus Music Week 2011 and the Toonzetters 2011, and his piece Silk Hole (2011), was awarded a commission prize at the Ereprijs Orkest’s Young Composers’ Meeting 2011.
As of October 2011, Thierry is pursuing an Advanced Studies degree at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg under the guidance of Brice Pauset. Future collaborations include a North-American premiere of his Sextuor Amstellodamois by the Continuum Contemporary Music Ensemble, a commission for Bern’s Ensemble Proton as well as a new opera, to be performed by the Dutch National Opera Academy (DNOA) in 2013.
