Julien Guillamat

Julien Guillamat’s works are out there! They have been performed in concert in Azet, Birmingham, Brussels, Dijon, Edinburgh, Fabrezan, London, Moissac, Mons, Montpellier and Perpignan…

After classical music studies at the conservatoire of Montauban and of Montpellier and a Master I in musicology at the Paul Valéry University in Montpellier (France), Julien Guillamat discovers music composition at the University of Birmingham (UK), where he obtains a PhD in electroacoustic composition with Jonty Harrison.

He composes acousmatic and mixte music following the French musical tradition and he has worked with the Opéra Orchestre national de Montpellier (OONM), the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, the Welsh National Opera, Music Theatre Wales, SOUNDkitchen and the REPertory Theatre, among others. In 2010 he was been finalist of the Métamorphoses International Composition Competition in Brussels.

Space is a fundamental element in his work and he performs and spatialises his own and others composers’ work around Europe on the acousmonia of Musiques & Recherches, BEAST or Klang! acousmonium. In 2010 he obtained a 1st prize in the spasialisation competition L’Espace du Son in Brussels. He has participated at numerous international conferences and festivals such as NIME 2011 (Oslo), Laptop Meet Musician Festival (Venice), Sound Around (Copenhagen), Inventionen (Berlin), Red Sonic (London), Exhibitronic (Strasbourg), Corée d’Ici (Montpellier)…

After being selected as composer at the Academy of Ircam in 2012 (Paris), he returned to France and founded the loudspeaker orchestra Klang! acousmonium. In 2014, he becomes artistic director of Maison des arts sonores, a music creation structure based in Montpellier, and created the electroacoustic music festival Klang!
